San Diego Drivers

… are horrible. I can’t really say much because I’m pretty bad and hardly driven before. But according to people from elsewhere, San Diego drivers are bad in that they swerve all over the place.

This morning as I was driving to work, a jeep tried to side swipe me from the left. As I saw it coming towards me, I heard a honk and the jeep moved back into his lane. Thanks to whoever honked for me because I didn’t have the honking reflex. The jeep then sped up ahead and go in front of me. Then, for two blocks he left his right blinker on.

Olympic Mascots   August 16, 2008

By now you must have heard of the Fuwa mascots of the Beijing Olympics. Their names mean “Beijing welcomes you” and each represent an animal and are associated with different sports. While in China I purchased a set of stuffed Fuwas.

One random thing I found amusing was that the panda, Jingjing, is associated with shooting. It just shows that pandas really do “eat shoots and leaves”.

I just saw the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 mascots. I didn’t even know it was going to be in Canada! … but the mascots are really cute, even though they are spirits that have parts of multiple animals.

Looking back on previous mascots, most are decent. I like Cobi from Spain 1992, but WTF is with Izzy (Atlanta 1996)? It is truly WTF. I’m just waiting for Japan to host and come up with a Sanrio character :D

Today’s Catch   August 12, 2008

I’m starting a new “segment” in this blog called “Today’s Catch”. It is simply what news, websites, pictures, and videos caught my fancy during the day. Most stories will be from Digg, since that is what I mostly read, but I’ll have some others too.

Watchmen Poster Comparisons
I started reading Watchmen because I heard the movie was coming out in March 2009. I’m very excited for it, especially because it has the same director as 300. The graphics already look beautiful. Be sure to check out the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet.

Chinese text-message primer
This is a delightful article on shorthands that the Chinese use in text messages. My favorites are TMD (Ta Ma De; swear word), 88 (Ba ba; bye-bye), and 3Q (San Q; thank you).
